Your first donation
What to expect when you donate.
Giving blood is safe, simple, and profoundly meaningful. From check-in to the canteen, the whole visit takes about 45 to 60 minutes — and a single donation can help up to three patients.

Before you come in
Set yourself up for a great donation.
Hydrate
Drink plenty of water in the 24 hours leading up to your donation.
Eat a good meal
A solid meal within a few hours of donating helps prevent lightheadedness. A little extra salt is a plus.
Rest up
Aim for a normal night's sleep. Well-rested donors have the best experience.
Bring your ID
A valid photo ID is required. If you're 16, bring your signed Parental Consent Form.
Step by step
The donation process, start to finish.
- 01
Check-in
Bring a valid photo ID and your appointment info. Our team will greet you and confirm your details. Donors who are 16 need a signed Parental Consent Form.
- 02
Mini-physical
We'll review your health history and check your temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and hemoglobin to make sure it's safe for you to give today.
- 03
The donation
You'll relax in a comfortable chair while a trained specialist collects your donation. Whole blood typically takes 10–15 minutes; you may feel a small pinch when the needle goes in.
- 04
Canteen & recovery
Head to our snack area for juice, water, and cookies. This 15-minute rest lets your body rebound before you head out — and it's the best part of the day.
- 05
After you leave
You can return to most normal activities the same day. Avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours, drink extra fluids, and enjoy knowing your donation can help up to three patients.

After you donate
Take it easy — you just saved lives.
- Keep the bandage on for four hours.
- Drink extra fluids for the next 24 hours.
- Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for the rest of the day.
- Skip smoking for at least 30 minutes after donating.
- If you feel unwell, sit or lie down, drink water, and call us anytime at (707) 443-8004.
